The world famous
´Milford Sounds Walk´

The Fiordland National Park has a World Heritage listing for many reasons, notably its glacier-cut fiords, lakes, deep U-shaped valleys, hanging tributaries and well preserved ice-shorn spurs.

These features plus the extensive areas of temperate rainforest inhabited by a number of rare and endangered species of plants, animals and birds combine to make Fiordlands National Park an invaluable "World Asset".

The Milford guided walk commences in spring and running through to Autumn every year (November to April).

Are you up to the challenge?

The Milford Track is neither easy nor difficult, its a challenge which anybody who is fit and in good health, aged between 10 and 70 will relish. Over 70´s who are fit and healthy may be approved for walking by providing a medical certificate from a doctor.

To enjoy your trek, you need to be fit enough to carry a medium sized back pack with personal belongings, clothing and a sleeping sheet provided over mountain tracks for 15 - 20 kms or 6 - 8 hours walking per day. The track varies from well formed surfaces to rough terrain over rocks and tree roots and steep rocky downhill sections will be encountered.

We recommend that walkers wear boots with good ankle support and if they are not regular walkers, that they begin taking daily walks 6 to 8 weeks ahead of time, gradually increasing the distance. Hill walking is advisable during this preparation period as it will certainly help to make the trek more enjoyable.

What are the Tracks Lodges like?

Warm and welcoming, with plenty of room to relax. Hot showers, drying rooms for clothes, many new facilities. Lodge staff prepare hearty farm-style meals; eat all you want.
