History comes alive on the Coromandel Peninsula. Ancient Maori pa sites, old kauri logging dams, abandoned milling and mining settlements, some more than a hundred years old. If it´s peace and quiet and some gentle exercise you´re wanting, try one of the many walks through scenic bush and mountain pathways provided. Visit the giant "Square Kauri" on the Thames coast.

Barry Brickell, railway enthusiast, engineer, potter and environmentalist, set up the potteries in 1974. He built the railway to bring raw clay and pinewood kiln fuel down from the mountains. Enjoy a one hours return ride on New Zealand´s only narrow-gauge mountain railway, and then inspect his potteries and shop.
