A fifth of New Plymouth´s land is devoted to public parks and gardens. Pukekura park is regarded as a superb formal park of Victorian charm with flower gardens, fernery, waterfall, fountain, glasshouses of tropical ferns and orchids, native bush, and artificial lakes. In December and January the park hosts a specacular lighting display. |

| Adjoining Pukekura park is Brooklands park with bush, sweeping lawns, immense trees, and a natural amphitheatre where crowds of up to 17,000 can enjoy outdoor concerts.
