New Zealand can be best described as the world in miniature and the adventure capital of the globe. In the South Island, one impressive feature dominates the landscape from all perspective´s - the towering Southern Alps, which form the backbone or this magnificent, unspoiled land. All along this vast topographical chain you´ll find ski areas of all levels dotted throughout its remote, alpine valleys and pristine passes.


The Southern Alps are home to New Zealands three premier Ski Areas:

Coronet Peak, Skiable area 280 ha.
Season: June - October, operates night skiing from mid July - mid September.
Longest run 1.8km

The Remarkable´s, Skiable area 220 ha.
Season: late June - October.
Longest run 1.5km.

Mt Hutt, Skiable area 365 ha.
Season: May - October.
Longest run 2km.


In the North Island, Whakapapa, the magic mountain is New Zealands largest developed ski area. Within our 500 hectare boundaries you´ll find excellent terrain for all levels of skiers and boarders. State of the art equipment helps maintain more than 30 groomed trails. For the advanced and expert Whakapapa´s famous steep chutes, couloirs and off-pists terrain are superb. Whakapapa season usually begins in late June and lasts until mid-November.

Learning to ski or board is easy at Whakapapa. At ´Happy valley´, the slopes are for beginners only, this area has been designed to make those first few tentative days as easy as possible.

Turoa ski resort boasts the highest and longest vertical drop of any ski area in Australasia. There are over 400 hectares of patrolled terrain and the same again off-trail. Information:

Total vertical rise 720m.
Highest lift-Bacardi T-Bar 2322m.
Longest run 4km.
Winter season: June to late Oct/mid/Nov.
